Many things transform a house into a home. The smell of homing cooking. Game night, crowding on the couch and watching a movie as a family. However, ambience also includes aroma and that’s where Scentsy comes in.

The idea for the wickless candle company came to Kara Egan and her sister-in-law Colette Gunnell in Meridian, Idaho, inspired by an episode of an Oprah Winfrey episode. The two women took their product to a Salt Lake City trade show where entrepreneurs Orville and Heidi Thompson became intrigued.

The concept is simple: a warming plate sits on top of a decorative holder with a low watt bulb. A scented bar of wax is placed on the plate and whatever room the “candle’ is resting in is soon filled with one of 80 aromas. Flavors include standards such as lavender, vanilla and cinnamon as well as more complex emanations like banana nut bread.

Now, in addition to the four score aromas offered by the company, an endless array of holders is available as well. A variety of colors and designs make it possible to place one in every room of the house. In addition, the company’s website allows one to design their own warmers, and they offer a membership to a “warmer of the month club.” Perfect for the holidays that land throughout the year.

And lest the man of the house feel left out or overwhelmed by the homey, some might say the feminine aspects of the product, there are warmers for him, too. Scentsy offer warmers with the colors and logos of college and professional sports teams.

Since there are no open flames and the bulb is contained, one can enjoy that extra glass of wine without the worry of burning down the house.

The best part is, anyone can become a part of the Scentsy team. Most of Scentsy’s sales come from community parties like mom used to have with her Tupperware. In fact, only 12% of sales are generated through the web or other outlets, the sales process is as personal as the product.

After contacting a consultant, a mere $99 will get you everything you need to throw your first party. It all fits in one shopping bag and the price structure is so simple you can do the math in your head. Below is a picture of everything you get when you join the business.

After that, Scentsy takes care of everything but the fun!

Scentsy supports, sponsors and mentors all of their Consultants. Each recruit has a personal sponsor an online support as well as access to the Consultant Support Department every weekday from 7 am to 7 pm. And that doesn’t include the annual conventions and seasonal training events the company holds throughout the year.

Each consultant also gets a free website for three months (it’s only $10/month after that), an online “back office”, free credit card processing, no inventory to manage and free shipping on orders over $150.

Consultants make 20% – 30% commission on their own sales, and also receives bonuses on the sales of those they sponsor.  “Superstar Directors” can make six figure incomes per year.

So plan a party, sit back and smell your success!
